The park spans Wufong Township and Jianshih Township of Hsinchu County, Tai-an Township of Miaoli County, and Heping Township of Taichung County, with the total area of 76,850 hectares.

The park is divided into four major areas, including the general protection area, recreation area, conservation area, and special scenic area. People intending to enter the conservation area have to apply for a Park Entry Permit in advance lest being fined.

The park provides the public with numerous services, such as one-stop service of application for both a Park Entry Permit and a Mountain Entry Permit at one time, application for survey and research certificates, subscription of interpretation service for groups, designated application for building line, building permit, and agricultural land certificate. After receiving a report concerning the violation of the National Park Law submitted by Shei-Pa National Park Police Brigade, this section will send a statement of opinion in a form of official document. Those who are reported can fill out the statement of opinion and submit it to this section within 20 days. If failing to submit it before this period of time, they will be deemed as abandoning this opportunity according to the regulation of the Article 105, Paragraph 3 of the Administrative Procedure Law.
