Continuing the Role of Accompanying Travelers and Giving New Life to Old Spaces
Opening of Shei-Pa "Artistic Wuling Gallery": Inaugural Photography and Oil Painting Exhibition Details the Stories of Wuling.
The Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters of the National Park Service, Ministry of the Interior (hereinafter referred to as the Shei-Pa Headquarters) officially inaugurated the "Artistic Wuling Gallery" special exhibition area on the 2nd floor of the Wuling Visitor Center today (10th), with the "These Years, Those Years – Our Wuling Stories" oil painting and photography exhibition as the debut showcase. The focus of this exhibition is to interweave and present the rich natural and cultural ecological landscapes of the Wuling Recreation Area. Through the lenses of frontline forest guardians and the brushstrokes of artists, the 400,000 tourists who visit Wuling annually can enjoy a new venue for deep experience in natural art, in addition to visiting the home of the national treasure fish, the Formosan Landlocked Salmon, and the climbing gateway to Snow Mountain and the Wuling Quadruple Peaks.
Wang Cheng-ji, Director-General of the National Park Service of the Ministry of the Interior, stated that Taiwan has 9 National Parks and 1 National Nature Park, containing diverse environmental ecologies from high mountains to the ocean and rich cultural resources. In addition to striving to develop characteristic environmental education activities, each National Park also plans and sets up special exhibition areas in various visitor centers, periodically inviting professional groups or artists for cross-disciplinary cooperation. This ensures that visitor centers are not only information stations but also windows for the exchange of aesthetics and conservation knowledge, leading the public to connect with the land and understand the value of ecological conservation from more diverse and profound perspectives.
The National Park Service explained that the predecessor of the "Artistic Wuling Gallery" was a cafe much loved by tourists. Adhering to the philosophy of "letting the space continue its role of accompanying travelers," the Shei-Pa Headquarters renovated the original site into an ecological art exhibition space while retaining a bright and comfortable rest area, allowing travelers to quietly feel the natural atmosphere of Wuling while appreciating the works. The inaugural exhibition "These Years, Those Years – Our Wuling Stories" brings together 84 photographic works taken by colleagues from the Shei-Pa Headquarters and employees of neighboring agencies, and invites artists Lin Jiu-li and Liu Yu-hsueh to jointly participate in exhibiting 10 oil paintings. These works delicately present the daily forest patrols, the changing colors of the four seasons, and ecological moments in the Wuling area. The photos and paintings echo each other in the exhibition hall, allowing viewers to see the multi-layered beauty of Wuling between documentary record and artistic creation.
The "These Years, Those Years – Our Wuling Stories" oil painting and photography special exhibition runs from February 10, 2026 to August 30, 2026. On the opening day, General Manager Tang Shih-tse of MSIG Mingtai Insurance led his team to visit the debut exhibition at the visitor center. The Shei-Pa Headquarters welcomes the public to visit the visitor center freely. On-site volunteer guided tours and exclusive DMs for commemorative stamping are provided, and a creative sharing session by the two participating artists is also planned. The exhibition period coincides with the Lunar New Year consecutive holidays. The National Park Service sincerely welcomes the general public to walk up to the 2nd-floor gallery when visiting the Wuling Recreation Area to rediscover this land that nurtures the national treasure fish and mountains through different forms of creation, and to experience the results of the National Park's efforts in guarding nature and promoting humanities and arts together with us.
