The Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as the Headquarters) of the National Park Service of the Ministry of the Interior celebrated its 32nd anniversary today, June 28, with the opening of the Explore the Alpine Islands - Asiatic Salamanders Exhibition. The exhibition is an updated version of the permanent exhibition at the Wenshui Visitor Center and focuses on the Taiwan salamander (Hynobius formosanus), a protected species found in Taiwan’s high mountains. In addition to the Taiwan lesser salamander (Hynobius fucus), which is endemic to the Shei-Pa National Park, the exhibition also allows the public to learn about the ecology of four other salamander species endemic to Taiwan, gain a deeper understanding of the importance of these mysterious creatures and their habitats, and work together to protect them in the future.
The Headquarters plans to hold a hand-puppet storytelling performances in the environmental education room of the Wenshui Visitor Center during the summer vacation, which school classes can attend after appointment, and also organize lectures on specific topics. The events will be announced on the official website and Facebook fan page of the Headquarters, and all interested individuals are welcome to participate.
